do l98 corvettes have knock sensor(s)? if so, do they have a spark control module?
Do l98 corvettes have knock sensor(s)?
If so, do they have a separate-from-the-ecm electronic spark control module that gives commands to the distributor to retard timing based on knock sensor input?
Yes and yes. On my 85 the knock sensor is located on the passenger side of the block near the starter. The ESC module is located on the passenger side near the blower motor.
Any idea what the ESC module, from an 89 vette, looks like?
The reason I ask is because casper electronics has a knock gage that lights from green to yellow to red. indicating level of knock retard being indicated by the ESC module.
Its based off of an 87 Buick GN ESC module. So if I ran an 87 Buick GN ESC module I would be getting data on whats good/bad for an 87 Buick GN.
I figure the vette (V8 vs. v6) might be a little bit different (maybe the same who knows) and an ESC module out of 89 vette might be the better predictor for my supercharged 93 lt1.
Since im stock bottom end, its very important that I am aware of any pre-detonation conditions.
There are other companies that market a stand alone dashboard knock display. A friend of mine had one on his race car. Sorry I don't know the brand, but you can google it.

The 1985-1989 ESC module is mounted on a bracket on the passenger side of your Vette.
Its right above the washer fluid bottle and next to the HVAC blower motor.
It should be marked with a large black and white tag saying "HKR" on your 1989 like my 87 Vert.

Yeah I wanna put this thing right on m dash, so if imgetting on it I can backoff if I see this thing start to light off.
Going up a hill under load, bad gas, etc. Could cause knock and ring land breakage if im at high rpm
