So I was playing around with an Iphone app today that supposedly works as an onboard performance meter for your car. I got curious so I did tried it out. I have a stock '88 except for 3" straightpipe and air filter cut. How accurate do these look?
The run I posted above was the best of 4, the others were in the 14.3ish range on the 1/4 mile so I guess I could have gotten a little off that time.
Even tho it might not be right on the money, with the consistency factor it could be useful to test before/after performance of mods without paying the money for a dyno run. just for fun, here's what it showed in 2nd gear to 5k rpm, it read 219hp this time.
Alot has to do with what the trigger threshold is to start the timing mechanism. If it's adjustable you want it around 0.2g's. This way your staging doesn't set it off. I have a pdf and link to a car and driver report that tested performance meters to the timing lights at a track. I can email them to a you if you like.
