I was thinking that if i get over 400hp and more torque than i could handle with a 383 and a SR, that the 86's 700R4 would fail fairly quickly.
so what should i think about having done to it, beefed up with new TC and cooler (ill get those 2 either way) or a whole new transmission and if so what kind?
Re: Best Automatic tranny for high hp? (mackeyred96)
It all depends you you want from the car and how much money you have to spend.
I would think that 700r4 would be OK with only 400rwhp.
well its the torque that worries me, my final goal is at least 450 TQ at the flywheel but i think ive seen a few with over 500TQ out of the AFR/383/SR setup. Treat this as if money wasnt a sticking point
If money is not a considering point, be the first person to mount an Allison 5-speed auto in there. :yesnod: Take lots of pics so I can do it after you're done. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
I'm assuming if you're installing a super-ram, you want to stay streetable, how about a built TH350 with lock-up?
Some people have installed a 4L80E. It is larger but can fit in a C-4 and will survive behind a stout big block. What ever you do to a TH700 or 4L60E, they will not hold up beyond a certain point.
At the power levels you are considering a built TH700 or 4L60E would work.
