Default Engine Measurements

To put it quite simply I am very bored at work. I spent a good deal of time yesterday drawing a fairly accurate 2d front on veiw of a v-8. It's very basic right now as it only has the connecting rods and pistons drawn in. No cam or anything like that.

SO to further my drawing, I need some more information.

What are the specs for a stock LT1 cam? Duration, Lift? Also what is the diameter of the base circle?

Also how far upward is the cam from crankshaft? Centerline to centerline would be perfect. Also what size are the timing gears? I know that the cam gear turns at half the speed of the crank gear so I can probably figure it out, but if somebody happens to know that would help out a lot.

I know somebody knows this information, or can direct me as to where to find it.

Thanks.

Yes, it's a little cheap looking right now, but it's a good start. I don't think my block would hold up to much abuse right now :)

The JPG kinda washes the colors from the original cad drawing, so they don't look that great, but anyway, this is what I'm up to.

Anybody any good with 3D studio max and know how to animate this?

Damn your as bad as me. No need to take it into Studio if it's still 2D. If you want me to wash it over for a simple animation I will. I have great 2D/3D AutoCad skills & decent Studio skills. What version are you running? R14 or 2000.

Email me the file if you want.

It's 2000, and yes I still have it in 2D. Will that work?

Ignore my bad skills, it's been a long time since I've played with cad. One drawing has all 8 pistons, with each pair on a different layer.

Animate away if you are so inclined, I think it would be really cool.

That looks pretty good. Maybe you could just find a way to eliminate the crankshaft and get rid of all that rotating weight. A stroker motor would be a lot cheaper without it too.

Nathan it must be really slow at work for you to do all that fine work you have done it AUTOCAD.

This cool stuff you have done.
