Totally different shape connectors, pinouts, pins, everything. It is so different the circuit board must be different to accomodate the weatherpak connectors. But the circuitry itself is the same.
What code are you running?

I'm in the middle of converting to a 730 ECM right now. Was thinking about going to the 727 if all works out. I'm also in the middle of tuning my chip. I did some tuning with the 165, and stopped to do the conversion. But I'm having a few issues with the swap, and feel my wiring, map, or ECM are bad. Map, EPROM are new, so I do not think that's an issue. My ECM is one I got of someone a long time ago, and may have gone bad. New one cost 65.99. Going to try that after I check the wiring.

I converted two weeks ago. Got the ECM out of a 3.1L Cavalier at the junkyard for $35.00.
I followed the repinning instructions on Mike Davis' website and it worked out fine. I didn't like his recommendation for the MAP ground, so I reused the MAF burnoff relay wire as a dedicated MAP ground.
I was totally shocked when it worked the first time!

Could give a little more detail on this MAP ground thing. I think this maybe my issue. I did nothing special in this area. I just hooked the MAP ground the the plug on the ECM connector. Should I have ran a ground. Lost please help.

The MAF sensor burn-off relay control comes from D12 on a black wire and goes to the burnoff relay behind the battery. (I don't remember if it was the left or right relay - I ripped them both out.)
Anyway I pulled the battery out and undid lots of old crusty black tape to pull that black wire back through the harness over to the passenger side of the motor where I mounted the MAP.
I connected the black wire to the Pin A (GND) of the MAP, and the other end to B6 of the ECM.
Other than that, I wired everything exactly as detailed by Mike Davis's repinning list.
I didn't make a harness to allow going back and forth, I made the change permanent.

Good luck
