Default '89 dashboard problem :(

Recently put C4 convertible back on road, but cannot read the dashboard. Where numbers used to be, now there are only yellow rectangles. During the day, if I put my sunglasses on I can see readings, but not without the sun glasses. At night, I can only see the yellow rectangles, and dimmer switch does dim the background, but not the numbers. Sometimes at night I can see the last number of the speedometer reading, but that's it. Please help, I want to DRIVE!!! betcorvette@hotmail.com

It could be dead LCD panes in your cluster. Or,...it could be the switching supply on the cluster circuit board which generates about 100 volts to operate the LCD's. Or,....it could be IC's that drive the LCD bars in the LCD panes. If you aren't at least an electronic technician, send your cluster to a repair center.

Has anyone replaced the polar film for the '89 dash from the outside???? Just trying to avoid taking the entire dash out, after all, my polarized sunglasses work from the outside.

Check fuse and grounds first. Then pull it...
