What size (diameter) exhaust piping will I need when running a high- boost supercharger?
I'm installing a YSi-trim on my LT1 383 and expect to achieve around 550-600 at the wheels (and will crank the boost to go beyond that eventually). I will be installing headers that have 3" collectors, and I assume that I should upgrade the rest of the system to 3"? Is there a rule of thumb (horsepower vs. exhaust pipe sizing)?
I found this article informative. I haven't read it in while, but I was thinking of doing something similar to your setup (383 and maxed out D1SC) and I think my conclusion was to do headers to 3" diameter and then step up to 4" diameter after a certain length for the collector extensions. It's been long enough that I might be completly off base though.
