Default Mass Air Sensor screen removal

I'm tossing the mass air screen tomorrow. The job looks straight forward, but just in case... Is there anything I need to stay away from, do I just cut the screen out? I've heard their pretty fragile and I don't want to mess them up because I see in Ecklers that they're $200 for a remanufactured one. I'd appreciate any tips.

Ok in the middle of the MAF there are some tiny tiny wires on a little pedastle. DO NOT COME NEAR THOSE. Break those and you'll be shelling out the $200.

I hopefully won't get clumsy and mess with them. Should I just use an every day set of wire clippers?

Well I am told you can pop the entire ring out without messing up the screens. I don't know how to. I punched a set of needlenose pliers in at the edge, and then was able to yank about 90% of it out in one pull. Then I plucked the remaining ones.

That was my original plan, but I'll try to pop it off first. I guess it would be a cleaner job that way

You can use a small flat head screwdriver and get the edge of the screen popped off. You'll still get some random strands that will have to be plucked out with a pair of needle nose.

Use a screw driver and plyers to pull the screens off.

There will be a slight HP gain, but don't expect to feel anything.

I used a set of channel locks and popped of a thin plastic ring holding the screens in there. Then after that I could just pull the screens out whole. It was a cinch, maybe 5 minutes. I'm sure I won't feel anything, but it helps my confidence. Sounds like a ricer mod, but I don't care. Time to go drive
