Hey Guys, I am building a 398 Super Ram engine for Charles (Vader 86). It is similar to the 396 SR build I did for Craig (CumberCr) and Kevin (K Millar). It has a 4 bolt hyd roller block, AFR 195 street heads, SRP pistons, Crower Stroker rods with 7/16" bolts, and a 4340 Eagle forged crank. It is internal balance with a ATI damper and 11.1 compression. I am also using a Crower 221/230 hyd roller. We are waiting on a few parts to show up to finish it off. Here are some pic's

The next one I started getting parts for will be different. A 427 Miniram, Dart block, Callies Dragonslayer, Crower rods, Probably JE or Ross pistons a Comp 242/248 XFI hyd roller and some AFR 235's... stay tuned!
But this thread is for Charles 398. The 427 will have it's own thread.

Having driven and raced a similar set-up to this build for many years..... I can say confidently, I am not sure if there is a better daily drivable capable street/strip set-up for a C4 than this. Its a motor that allows you have your cake and eat it too.
The 398 is getting a Super Ram, not a HSR, Holley Stealth Ram. And a Super ram combo is day/night from a Miniram. Good street manners, works well with a mild cam, alot of torque everywhere. And will still pull down excellant gas mileage. Most of these strokers with a super ram will still pull down 25-28mpg. A miniram with big cubes, a big cam, big heads, and some gear won't do that... ask me how, I know! I used to have a super ram combo I built in my car. But I have probably had 5 different engines in my car, with more different configurations of those engines than I can count.
I guess it really comes down to what you want out of your car, and how you use it.

Never knew that, why is the SuperRam so good at mileage ?
because of the lower rpm's ?
Jim, I hope asking a question in this thread is not out of line, but regarding the ATI Damper, did it just press on to that Eagle forged crank or did you need to get the damper honed?
