Default Reverse lockout rod 4+3 length?

I replaced my reverse lockout rod, presumably original and if so, with about 100,000 miles of service, with a "new" used rod. As you can see from the picture below, the old had been chewed off and exhibits that "U" shape on the end I've seen in other threads. The new had several abrasions but generally seemed to be in good shape and at 177mm (from the bottom of the handle) was 4mm longer than the old.

My question is this: does anyone know the spec length of these rods; is 177mm pretty close to spec?

Many thanks!

John

I'll measure mine when I get home from work.

I measured mine: TOTAL length 8 7/8 inches = 225mm.

Thanks again for pulling and measuring it. My "old" one is 8 3/4" overall and the "new" one would be 9". How many miles on yours?

My best guess is 76k as that is what was on the odometer when I bought it, but your guess is as good as mine - she is a mutt.

Thanks again for getting back to me. Of all the things-Corvette I've encountered, GM discontinuing a wear item like the reverse lockout rod when 25k Corvettes were sold with the 4+3 is hard to understand. On the other hand, the fact that no one stepped in when Corvette Clinic dropped out ten years ago strongly suggests that folks who need a replacement reverse lockout rod have found some alternative, either like me used but in good condition, or a shop like Austin Corvette that will weld and grind them back "as good as new".

Someone suggested in one of the threads having one built out of sturdier stock - my guess is this stock is probably mild steel - but if a shop could use hard chromium plate the rods would last much longer. But then I'm not an engineer.

I do think I'm going to ask a fab shop what the alternatives and costs would be.

Thanks again.

That's why I swapped in a WC T5 and am on the lookout for possibly a T56 for the future. I was lucky that the 4+3 worked when I got it and worked for the month that it was behind the 383. Going to sell the whole setup soon.

A 383 huh? I sense a fellow rat rodder disguised in a C4 shell. Mine is a Lingenfelter 383 and when the ECM and harness both just failed, I replaced them with a F.A.S.T EZ-EFI and have been very pleased.

When I bought my first Vette a friend said "Vettes are nice cars but if you really want fun, you want a stroker". Last year I found one and although the rebuild has been a lot of work, his words were right on. Nothing like a stroker on a Spring evening with the top off and those Borlas purring away.

Guilty - except I am not fooling anyone anymore. I went with a local custom 2.5" stainless exhaust, no cats, with x-pipe and long tubes and Magnaflows. It's a lot louder than I thought it would be. It's a rod - no niceness here anymore.

The weather here has been incredible - been enjoying the hell out of it.

Now on to the next mod (can't leave well enough alone).
