Is there a sticky or post someone can point me to that shows
a fuel pump replacement procedure, hopefully with pictures.
I have searched with no luck. I have seen the thread on fixing
the sending unit, it is helpful. Also, what's the best to use,
ACDelco or just what the parts places carry. Which ones come
with the sock/strainer in a full kit? TIA, Dan.
i dont know about pictures but its a pretty easy and strait forward process.... open you gas filler door, remove the four screws that hold the door onto the car (remove the fuel filler door), remove the gas cap, remove the rubber boot (make sure you remove the overflow drain line before you take the rubber boot out of the car). you should now see the 8 or 10 bolts that hold the fuelpump asssembly in the car. disconnect your electrical conection and dissconect all hoses from the top of the assembly. remove the bolts that hold the fuel pump assembly. Carfully pull your fuel pump assebly up and out of the car. take it to your bench. dissconect the filter bag from the pump, dissconect the electrical connector for the fuel pump on the assembly. slide your fuel pump off, put your new one on and reassemble.... easy i used a fuel pump i bought at the auto store... i dont think i spent a whole lot on it (all stock fuel pumps are pretty much the same, when you start getting upgraded fuel pumps ie. holly ect.. then brand might matter a little bit more)
heres a thread i did on replacing the fuel pump on my 89 with pictures =). the procedure is pretty straight forward, should take maybe and hour. i went with a walboro pump from racetronix, its plug and play and comes with everything where as the ac delco ones are universal and youre going to have to splice some wires. nothing major, but it is a fail point (as it failed on my 82 pump). hope this helps!
Thanks for the help, I ordered the Racetronix Walboro fuel pump,
sounds like a lot better one with the gasket and new bolts and
o-rings and no splice wire harness. A couple bucks more but
well worth it. I'll post back when I get it and install it.
