Default Welders/Brazing experts step inside...

I switched to an old school rear mount distributor on a 96 LT1. I had to remove the shrader valve from the factory fuel lines in order to fit the distributer. Now there is a 1/4 inch hole in my steel fuel lines.

Would it be safe to braze some copper tubing/other material over the hole to seal it? Would it stand up to the 43psi fuel pressure? Opinions on most professional fix?

I wish to keep the fuel system as stock as possible so no radical fuel system changes are desired...

I vote, buy a tubing bender, tubeing cutter, and a double flare tool and make a new one , or have one made, engine fires totally suck. I weld and braze and I wouldnt do that job.

I can MIG weld, stick AC/DC arc weld, acetylene gas weld,
stick weld cast broken & cracked cast iron blocks along with braze ferrous metals all day long.

Not sure I would braze the main fuel rail back together either.

Thanks for the input. There are some pretty intricate bends on this particular tube. I thought of cutting and flaring but there is not room for the flair fitting because its so close to the rear mount distributor. I have temporarily sealed it with fuel injection hose and dual clamps but would like it to be more permanent.

Purchase a pair of Extruded Aluminum Fuel Rails for your LT-1 rear distributor project.

ACCEL, TRICKFLOW, EDELBROCK and dozens of of other manufactures will have them.

I just looked at those on summit and they are big bucks and I would still have to replumb and bend the steel fuel lines. The Fuel Rail covers would not work with aftermarket rails. Thanks Brian and keep the suggestions coming. They are appreciated.

Yes there is fabricating to do on your part.
You are already in custom fabricating and racing think mode.
That is a good thing too.
Braided AN-6 & AN-8Fuel lines are just plain cool looking too.

There may be $ cheaper options for you out there that I am not aware of myself.

Nice. I like the fuel pressure guage. Mine is a dual sync with small cap. Is that a large cap distributor?

Its really hard to Weld or Braze on anything Factory made as most is made from some sort of Junk Metal and there isn't really anyway to know what it is. More often than not the part ends up in the trash.

Will an L98 fuel rail setup work for your project?

Yes I just looked over a couple of pictures of the L98 fuel rail setup and I don't think it will work with the LT1 intake due to the crossover pipe.

I think that I will probably try to bend and cut my own hard line as was suggested by oldalaskaman. Everybody I've heard from has said that it would not be safe to weld/braze on the fuel lines.

And I certainly don't want to damage the current fuel rails (Thanks for the info Gale) as they are getting hard to find and expensive.

I really, really like that; at the threat of going off topic, is that distributor hooked into the stock computer circuitry ?

I agree with bend a new line, I thought you were talking about the fuel rail.
