Anyone know the proper way to remove a stock shift **** off a ZF6?? I thought it should twist off but it doesnt budge and I didnt want to put any real muscle into it. Thanks

Re: Shift **** removal (eamador11)
Take a flat head screwdriver and pry the poopie pattern off, then take a set of pliers or channel locks and pull the metal T pin out. Then the **** just screws off.
The T pin could just slide out, or it may be wedged in there pretty secure. I've come across both.
I've put a Hurst shifter in my '94, and that T-pin can be a real pain. Be careful when pulling it out with the pliers - it can break easily. I learned the hard way....Good luck!
Before you go to any trouble, after you pry out the plastic shift pattern button, just get a small pair of vise grips and clamp on to the wedge. Then take a hammer and gently tap in an upward direction until the wedge comes out.
If you just clamp on and start wiggling and twisting, you are just asking for a fist or vise grips in your face or through your roof.
Do it right the first time, your face and/or roof will thank me later.
Cool guys thanks for the tips! I will be sure to wear a hockey helmet for extra precaution. When my dad asks me why im wearing a helmet in my car, ill tell him im removing my shift ****.
