Wheel bearing check .....
Rears:
So rears both have a slight bit of movement 12:00 / 6:00 (est of course). Not much, but there. There is no movement at 9:00 / 3:00 unless I really put some stuff into it and maybe I can feel a little. I'm fairly sure I had no movement last year at this time (same proceedure). Wheel bearings gone?
Fronts:
No movement 12:00 / 6:00. None. Very slight movement 9:00 / 3:00. Tie rods?
Oh well, should have checked in the fall. Car handles great on the road.
I would not have asked this last year as it was my understanding that there should be no movement. However some threads this year have had brand new bearings with some movement. I don't wan't to take a day off from work and not fix anything!
I just put a new bearing in the rear (actually bearing hub) I'm waiting to get my other ujoint to put the half shaft back in\.. ill measure the play for you to tell youexactly how much a NEW hub has.. Stay tuned
I just replaced both on my '85. The right side was original and had 32nd (the guys doing my alignment said that was acceptable. The left side bearing was replaced about 10k ago with a value line bearing it had about 1/8 not acceptable for an alignment. I decided to replace both. The new bearings have virtually no play (only the little tick). If you do it yourself make sure you torque the spindle nuts to spec. Since the four wheel alignment and new bearings and Kuhmo tires the car drives on rails and does not "grab" the road crown. Good luck! (RussH)
