First, I would like to thank all the guys who posted to my inital thread about my mysterious clunk problem.. anyways, I had diagnoised it to be a rear wheel bearing since i had almost an inch of play... but just to be safe I bought a u-joint..
[micro-rant on]
well... who every said it was easy... lied!! first I didnt have a socket big enough for the spindle nut... hitched a ride to the store got bigger socket.. then once i got the F#$%#$ torax bolts out of the hub, I noticed the ujoint was shot... so, after removing the F#$%#$% half shaft I noticed not only is the U-joint shot, it welded the cap to the main body... AND the other ujoint was bad also.. AGHHH.. I only had one U-joint!!!!!! So, I RAN about 2 miles to the local autozone (i needed the exersize anyway) and bought a new u-joint.. came home, ate dinner, went to put it on... HE SOLD ME THE WRONG DAM UJOINT!!!!!! DAMDAMDAMDAMDAMDAM now its too late and AZ is closed... so i have to do it in the morning.. MONDAY MORNING AGGGHHHHHHHHHHH... and I still have to put all that junk back toeather... AGHHHHHHH
I'll update more tomorrow... THIS BETTER FIX THE F#@#@ CLUNK or im getting a mustang!!!! (ok... i wont got that far... but at least a big hammer!)
Re: Clunk Be gone [mini-super small rant] (BluByU)
I hear ya. I have a mysterious clunk too. Ive changed u joints, wheel bearings, new rear gears, etc., and still there. It happens only going slow aroun corners or taking off from a slow roll. Under hard acceleration its not there. I just dropped my car off to my mechanic to have him look at it in his free time and see what he can come up with. Ill keep you posted.:)
Some people have all the luck! Sorry to hear that it was you!
That is why we tell everyone to catch the problems early before it gets to be serious. If you would have caught it early, it would have been much easier! :D
Re: Clunk Be gone [mini-super small rant] (Sharky Guam)
I just went and picked up my car and the clunk seems to be gone. I havent really driven to much , just home from the shop. When I take off from a slow roll, or go around a turn and take off slow it is qiuet. That is when the clunk was most prevalent. Mechanic said he added another bottle of rear end additive and torqued up all the bolts on the rear suspension. He also said that most of the bolts were slightly loose. Anyways, once I get it out and drive it a little more I will know for sure, but right now it seems to be fixed.:D
