What are the best Headers that fit a 1989 C4
1) I'm looking to get a set of headers for my 1989 C4 Corvette. I heard that the Hooker 2149's would fit best, are there any other suggestions?
2) Is it best to stick with the Y pipe, or go truly dual?
3) Are there adapters to get the hooker 2149's attached to the existing stock Y pipe, or will I have to get a different Y Pipe?
4) What would the model number be for the Y pipe, or adapters?
5) Are there any issues with the Hooker 2149 headers coming in contact with any other components that can result in damage?
6) If you suggest a different header, the same questions would apply
concerning the fitment to the existing exhaust.

Hi.
If you should have all the accessories that are stock on the engine the TPIS headers are very easy to fit. You can use all stock fixtures and air connections without any modifications. The only mods you have to do is to change one headerbolt to torx or alike and change the airtube to cat as the Y tube is thicker than stock.. Easy to change sparkplugs. If you order do order coated ones. I have had mine since 1997 and works excellent. The primaries are 1 3/4".

If you are willing to spend that much TPIS is a good choice. There are other excellent sets out there however. Google will turn up a bunch as will checking our supporting vendors.

Well, I wanted TPIS headers but they didn't have any in stock and they didn't expect any for 2 weeks when I was putting my motor in. Now I wish I could have waited, I ended up using Hooker headers. Hookers aren't bad headers, but there Y pipe wasn't even close to fitting and had to be cut all to pieces to get it to fit. Im not the only one that has had problems with Hookers Y pipe not fitting.. If I had to do it over again I would let my car sit for 2 weeks and wait for the TPIS headers to be in stock.. Don't get a Hooker Y pipe under any circumstances....Below are pics of what I had to do to get the Y pipe to fit. What a piece of crap, every seam you see had to be welded by me. I even had to use a sleeve to extend the pipe out because it was to narrow.....Sorry for the rant, but the answer to your question is.. TPIS headers are one of the best..WW

I went with Stainless Works for my 91 C4. pass side was a tight fit, but very high quality product. came with the Y-pipe.

I've had Hookers and am now using ARH which just came out with their C4 headers. ARH all the way with time slips to prove it. They have regular and stepped headers and both are made with merged collectors which are worth a few hp.

Look up "MELROSE" you can get them made up anyway you want with/without AIR and assorted other ways. I have a set on my 87' and they fit GREAT easy install also. They where JETHOT coated inside and out and really dropped the under hood temps. They are really great guys to work with you will have to have someone bend some pipe but reeal easy for a GOOD shop! Mine have been on for almost 6yrs and still look fine!

From what I've seen in person and read reviews, Melrose are great fit and wear well for years.
