Default Rear End Confusion

I have read in the owner's manual that the C4 has like a 3.06 rear end or something, but i read in a couple books it has a 2.73 (i cant remember exactly)

does anyone know what the actual ratio is on an 84 base corvette?
i would like to drop in a cam but if the ratio is that high i need to get a smaller one than i wouild like to (looking for a touch of lope)

Either 2.73 or 3.07 on your 84 Vette.

Check storage compartment folding door for the broadcast code white label attached.

The rear gear ratio code will be there coded.

On 86 & late C4 verts, the white label of codes is on the console door underside.

Your welcome.

You can research all codes here on C4 using the search function.

Or you can call your local GM Dealership & ask for the parts guy.
They can decipher all codes over the telephone with you.

All '84's ( regardless of trans type ) came with a 3.07 rear except for 410 manual cars that were fitted with a ultra rare 3.31 ratio.
There was no optional ratio available for auto cars in '84
In later years ;
2.59 was the base ratio for autos ( 2.73 in verts ) and 3.07 was the optional RPO G92 " performance ratio" for autos

A D36 was the only diff fitted in '84 ,the heavier D44 (RPO G87 ) came with manual cars '85 - '96
