I have a new (to me) LT4 with PCM, but BCM & steering column (with key) came from different cars. I have the 3 different VIN numbers. All of this is going in my 1 Corvette. I've read that the 96 Corvettes use different VATS systems, & the resistor trick doesn't work. I don't intend to do that anyway, but plan to use the VATS.
What is the best way to get the VATS, & all of these parts from 3 different 96 cars to work together?
To the best of my knowledge the CCM is the key, it needs to see the resistor value from the same donor vehicle. You may be able to get that from a dealer using the VIN you have matched to the CCM. Once you have that you would need to cut a key that fits the column on the correct blank or install the resistor jumper. As far as I know the PCM is passive, it only needs to receive the handshake from the CCM saying all is well.
Another option would be to measure resistance of the key for the replacement column then send the CCM out for repair/programming to match that key. I have been told this forum vendor can repair the CCM.
The above is what I know about earlier cars so it may not be the same if 96 is indeed different, perhaps a call the vendor listed can clarify, good luck.
I've read somewhere that something is different with the VATS & keys on the 96. I have all of the resistor codes. I also know the BCM - CCM & PCM relearn procedure. I may see about getting a key with tumbler from the VIN of the BCM - CCM. Thanks for the link. I'll keep researching.
