My Shift indicator has been a little bit off since my converter install. As a result the other day on the highway my car was accidentally thrown in reverse going about 70-80mph. This happened because I accidentally hit it reaching over to the passenger side. Here is what happened. The car bogged hard almost as if braking...the the engine preceded to shot off like it shoud. I quickly threw it into dive as soon as I saw what happened. Then pulled over to the side of the road. I turned off the car after putting it into park. I waited for a few seconds then tried to start it. Ittook a little longer than normal but started right up. I slowly got back on highway and accelerated to see if everything was workin. Everthing seemed to be ok. Its has been a few days since then and I have only driven it once since then and it drives normally. My question is what should I do next? What have I potentially done...besides uterly destroy my tranny? Need help!!!
Never try this in your car...VERY BAD IDEA. Scared the poop outa me.
Hey bud, you could have the fluid and filter changed out in case you burned it or created some metal shavings. If you really feel like spending some money, take it to Alamo and have them check out the tranny.
Ok now I am startin to have problems. If I run the air conditioner and then turn it off, the car just dies. I figured I must have burnt something out. What could it be?
Im planning on a trip to Lockhart either Friday or Saturday to get my tranny checked out by that guy who smoked me on 360. Come along and Im sure he can give you an opinion for free or you can give him a call. His name is Rick and he is one of the shop foreman at AAMCO on Burnett and 183. He has a HP shop in Lockhart that does HP work called Mike's Automotive.
First question, how did it accidentally go in reverse? Were you manually shifting or did it do it on it's own?
You shouldn't be able to go into reverse without pushing the button in on the shifter.
You can go reverse to neutral without pressing the button(I think) neutral to overdrive without pushing the button and once you push the button for drive, you can just slide the shifter into 2 or 1 without using the button. Same for the way up, 1-2, 2-D, and D-OD without pushing the button.
Mojo, as stated in the first part my shift indicator is off and does not lock properly in Overdrive. It locks..but only backwards...so the stick can still move forward without button.
Well, took it to the dealer today. They ran a diagnostics check and they said that I had a bfried IAC Valve. They said that they are 90% sure a new one will fix the problem. Got any opinions on what I should do. They say that it will cost around 200+ for parts and labor.
An IAC motor on the throttle body is ~$60 and it should not take more than 10-15 minutes to replace it. The only thing is controls is idle air entering the motor so that would make sense why the car died. I would just get the part from Jeff Kopp and fix it myself.

$200 is a rip off. You can do it way cheaper than that. I replaced mine for way less.
Looks like I may have fixed the problem without getting a new IAC Valve. I went through the reset process for the IAC valve and it ran fine. I guess the final test will be to take it out on the road and test it. Wish me luck :seeya
