When my headlights are retracted the passanger side one is not flush. It moves up and down about 1 inch. When it is against the stop it is flush. What can I adjust that will allow the headlight to retract tightly against the stop?
Probably a worn drive gear in the headlight motor assy.....or....best case....you will need to replace only the 3 Delrin bushings...cost...$5.00....at your local catalog dealer.... :) ....you may also want to check out the Tech TIPS and look for the one on headlight repair.... :yesnod: ... :seeya
I did a search and found many problems with lights not opening, not closing, half opening or half closing, but could not find a problem similar to mine. My lights open and close fine, the left one just does not go to the stop. It seems that there should be a adjusment or switch telling the light when to stop rotating.
Hey ron... I got the same thing goin on... I put new bushings in it.... no good... Cant get it to sit flush... If you find out something... help me out... I i will keep u in mind if i get my fixed
I didn't have the exact same problem but I learned a few things while troubleshooting my headlights. There is no switch that senses when the headlight is fully opened or closed. There are two reasons the motor will stop turning: too much time or too much current. There is an electronic device that monitors the current (amps) going to the motor and how long the motor is running. When the headlight reaches the fully closed or open position, the motor current goes up. This in turn causes the control circuit to shut the motor off. If there is any kind of bind in the mechanism, the system will turn off the current because it "thinks" the headlight has reached its travel limit. Also, if the gears are slipping, the control circuit will time out. If it didn't, the motor would just keep turning indefinitely.
I solved my problem of the headlight not closing to the stop. If you take a look at the headlight you will see a shaft running from one side to the other. On the part of the shaft that is toward the motor you will see a bolt on the shaft. If you remove the light cowling and the piece you see in the closed position you will see another bolt on the same shaft just inside the assembly.
While they both seemed tight I gave them each a little twist while putting pressure on the light assembly to hold it in the direction I needed it to go. I reassembled the unit and the light now moves all the way to the stop.
Good Luck!!!!
