Mike: I replaced the mast on my 89 about 2 months ago and it works great. However, it is not a quick or easy task. I have a GM factory manual which details the steps to do this job. If you would like a fax or mail copy of this, please send me an email.
I think you are very optimistic! I spent about 5 hours on this. You will have to remove most of the left rear interior and disconnect the antennal and power leads. You will then jack up the left rear, remove the wheel and plastic wheel well. After doing all of this, just remove the two screws and ground strap. At this point you have it out. I assume the old cable is broken......this requires you to disassemble the motor unit. Good luck!!!
Please make sure the length of cable that you remove is the same length of the new one. If it is not, the broken cable left in the motor assembly will cause you a problem!!!
Got the new mast in! :D But now i have to find a replacement for the rubber gromit that goes in the antenna hole :mad MAD does not have this - any other suggestions? otherwise i'll be hitting the dealer tomorrow.
