I'm just about finished with my bolt in 9" rear. I've been working on it, as I had time. I really don't have a good place to change it at, but I made do. As I said before, the rear was in the car before, and I pulled it out, because of broken spider gears.
It's always a topic on the CF about bolt in solid rears, and I was racing points in the ECSCC at Etown, and saw a lot of broken rears. There was a racer there that had a rear done, and spent alot of money to have a solid rear done. I wanted a rear that would bolt in and can be remove and replace with the IRS if needed. I toyed around with the rear for a few months before I was satisfied with it. I ended up putting the coilover shocks behind the rear and make a Y slide bar to locate the rear. I utilize the factory sway bar. I made a crossmember for the transmission, that was bolted in from the inside of the car, which I had to cut the tunnel housing. I also cut two strip of the cargo floor. One for the shocks and locator, and the other for the center section. I wanted the vette to sit the orginal ride height, and it need to be cut so the rear won't hit the floor, at that ride height. It can be done without cutting the floor, but the car will need to sit a little higher that stock. If you're putting a 9" in a C4 you will need to cut the cargo storage compartment on the driver side a little, with a 10 or 12 bolt you don't need the cut the storage area.
I changed the rears, without pulling the spare tire down. I plan on making a 9" IRS with CV axle, when my finance get better, that's why I put the solid rear back in. The Dana 36 was clicking LOUDwhen turning and my funds was low, and like the commercial " I wantta ride I wannta ride" I used what I had laying around.
I do want to say THANK YOU the CF for the information I've learned over the years. I used different idear from different member and came up with a rear that works great for my car.

Congratulations, I like your idea about being able to swap back in irs if you were so motivated (ex. This year you do heavy drag racing, next year you plan to do lots of autox/road race and can swap irs back)
Randy,
Glad you were able to get your car sorted back out. I too would love to see some pics of your set up, including the cross member you built and the clearance you had to take from the storage compartment and or cargo area. Did you use your stock calipers and rotors? Did you remove your ABS pump or leave it?
Like you said, getting Ideas from people that have been there, done that is super helpful and inspiring. Pretty much what keeps this forum valuable. Thanks for your and everyone else's' contributions!
