Default Help... how do you take apart the window switch from Bezel??

middle of trying to change a power window switch on a 86. I got access to it by taking out the screws and proping up the console, I then took out the two screws for the power window switch (drivers side). The whole switch assembly comes up about a inch now. I see when I ordered the switch there are 3 pieces, the harness ( female portion) the switch and a bezell. What is the trick to get the pieces apart? I don't want to break the bezel or worst mess up the female harness. PLease help. I see the bezel has a slot on the side, do you push in a flathead? I don't want to pry it and break. There has to be a easy trick to separate the pieces. Help please..

The switch should just pop out of the bezel. If might be a little tight, but it should come right out. If not, spray some PB Blaster on it and then try.

Worst case, if you break the bezel, you can order a new one from Corvette America for $14 - part #30778.

I actually just did that on Sunday also and it takes a little wiggling and pulling but it comes out, I separated them carefully with a flathead screwdriver...

Default Thank you.. problem solved yesssssss

Thanks for the tips... after looking at both part pictures it shows that the switch snaps with tabs into the bezel... using a flathead CAREFULLY I pried them apart from the bottom.... hopefully this post will save people some time. here how the process went to change the window switch on a C4, mine is a 86.

I removed the six screws on the center console, 2 by the climate control (one on each side), 2 on the console by the window switches and 2 when you open the center glove box, (they are at the top inside facing the front, one is right next to the latch). You can now lift the center top plate about six inches, I used a small water bottle to wedge in under it to keep it up. You have too open the top lid of the glove box and carefully come up by the hinge side, wiggle it a little it will come up. Then you have access to the switch with has a top bezel, covering the switch which is into the harness. you then remove two screws holding the bezel, I went down through the actually opening for the window switch to access these. ( you will have too lower and raise the top plate for the right angle.)

Now for the fun part I carefully used a flathead that you put under the side of the bezel top pry it off gently. then I wiggled by hand the switch off the harness. (you could use the flathead). Now hold that harness up if you can, mine fell into the hole, but with a needle nose you can grab it by the corner and pull if up, there is a slot on the back corner.. (found this after 30 minutes of trying fingers to pull it up, screwdrivers etc, then saw on the top of it there is space to put a pair of needle nose top pull it up) just be carefully and don't let it fall in. I then put the new switch into the bezel (snaps in), then I supported the harness under the plastic with a flathead (carefully not hit wires) and pushed the Switch attached to bezel into the harness. I then maneuvered the switch into place, put in the two screws. Put down the top plate and put back the 6 screws. This worked out good for me, I didn't have to take out the whole center console of the shifter etc.

Thank you to everyone for their help... especially oldalaskaman.

You guys are great...

BTW... I'm no mechanic, I won't even attempt to change plugs...
