I installed an accel tpi base on my firebird a couple of months ago and it never right right. I have built a new engine for the car and started tearing down the old one last night to find water in the cylinders. I didn't use any rtv or sealer on the manifold gaskets. I don't want this to happen again so should I use some sort of sealant on the gasket around the water holes?
Thanks
Use Permatex "The Right Stuff" to seal your gasket.
Just a Heads up....if you did not drain the BLOCK (just the radiator) you will get coolant in the cylinders when you pull the heads. You can get coolant in the valley when you pull the intake.
To drain the block you have to remove the screw in plug on the drivers side and the knock sensor on the passenger's side of the block.
This wasn't something that just got in when I pulled the heads. There was rust.
So the right stuff? I saw someone had recommended the copper spray on sealer.
Forgot to add I am using Corvette 113 heads so it is aluminum this time. The heads were cast iron on the engine I had it in the firebird.
Thanks again.

The copper spray is good on the gasket between the intake and the head, but on the china walls use "The Right Stuff" instead of RTV sealer. The right stuff is a rubber compound instead of a silicone and it holds and seals better. I used a sealer made by Edelbrock called "Gasgacinch" on my intake to head gaskets on my 383 and it worked great, below is a link to that product. Also when doing the china walls run some of the Right stuff sealer up onto the intake gasket about 1/4inch , this will make sure it seals completely..Last but not least, make sure to tighten the bolts down in 3 steps, not all at once. I do mine following the torque sequence all way around the bolts three times ending with my final torque spec....WW http://www.summitracing.com/search/B.../?autoview=SKU
