I glanced down at the speedometer when the revs dropped, and I was at 102 indicated groundspeed. It's not the first time this has happened. It seems like my top end is going away - like there's not much left past 100 mph, which is bad for a car that has hit 103 in the quarter.
Not-quite WOT throttle on the freeway, I was only doing a run-up to clear traffic in a dangerous situation, when the revs and the engine sound blip down ever so slightly before struggling back up.
I don't think I felt an upshift. I didn't think our trans were supposed to be able to upshift into 4th at WOT until much later, speed-wise, but also, I may have not been at 100% WOT at that point. Jumping at shadows, perhaps? You know how sensitive we all become to the SLIGHTEST change in our car's operation...(translation: Oh God now what?).
The car's felt 'logy' for a while now. It's run a 13.7 at 103, but the last time at the track, in BG at the Cruise-in last year, the best I could do was a 14.1 at 98 mph. But everyone was complaining about a slick track. I may just be used to the power now...
Re: Engine problem inside a cautionary tale. (Matt Black)
Just a shot in the dark but it could be the beginings of clogged cats. It hasn't happened in my Vette but I had a similar experience in a previous hot rod. How many miles on your car? Running rich will cause clogging no matter how few miles you run.

Even on a slick track your MPH should be around the same if not a little higher. Excessive wheelspin at the start usually results in a higher MPH. As much as you don't want to hear it, there is something wrong. May be as simple as a clogged cat.

I had some trouble wth my '92 once not wanting to do top end highway speeds over 100 or so. Turned out to be bad O2 sensors. Just something else to check. O2 sensors should be replaced every couple of years to keep them healthy.
