I'm looking at getting the K&N airfilter. Many people here said to cut the lid. Is that a lid that K&N sells or are you talking about cutting the stock lid? Also, how should I cut it?
Just cut the stock lid center section out (part with the louvers). Make sure to leave enough frame to hold the filter in.
Sorry - one of the few things that I don't have a picture of.

Cut out the grill on the stock air box lid with whatever metal cutting tool you have saw, etc. Save yourself a few bucks and just buy a new stock paper filter if needed. You won't tell any diff with the K & N.

You can pick one up at most of the Corvette parts houses or, as mentioned above, just cut your OEM filter cover yourself.
I picked up an extra lid, cut that one out, and I could tell no difference with the cut vs stick lid.
Used oil analysis of cars running KN Air Filters almost always show a higher level of silicon in the oil. Silicon is a very abrasive substance normally ingested through the (KN) air intake and it causes a lot of metal wear. When you see high silicon levels in used oil analysis, you will also see high levels of iron tin chromium and lead. Guess where those are coming from?

I wonder how much the sound changes with a cut lid? In the old days, flipping a carbed air cleaner (or running an open sandwich) made quite a varoom noise.

So take it down and reglue/replace it. That's a pretty easy job. The perimeter (trim) of the targa will come apart to let you complete this job.
