Your 1993 C4 should have the Blue Tag ZF 6- speed transmission.

Did someone install a 5-speed Tremec trans. in your Corvette ?

If a Tremec 5- speed & aftermarket shifter like a Hurst or B&M......

I think they have adjustable shift stops external.

Have to remove the console/ or shifter rubber boot to get access.

I would take it into a shop and have them check it out if you aren't sure of yourself on any of this. Either that, or see if someone on the forums would be willing to drop by your house with some tools and lend you a hand. Usually us gearheads work for a few beers and some charred animal flesh.

Are you certain you're pulling up on the lockout ring, if there's one on the shifter handle?

What year did they eliminate the lockout and go with the crash-through?

As mentioned above, you should probably take it to a shop.

Your Corvette did not come from the factory with a 5-speed transmission or shifter.
And so far, you haven't been able to tell anyone here what kind of transmission you have.

The lockout ring VetteMed mentioned would be on the factory shifter.

The lockout "ring" is directly below the shifter ****. You use your fingers to pull up on it which then allows you to move the shifter to
Reverse. You are moving the shifter all the way to the right and then to the rear??

Does the shifter **** have a pattern on it? Post a pic or describe the pattern.

sounds like he doesnt have the stock transmission in there, so the lockout ring is irrelevant. i agree with black89z51, take it to a shop and figure out what youve got in there. strange someone would take the time to replace the zf6 with a 5 speed

I don't know what you mean here.

i cant to reverse gear, i have a 5 shifter box. even when the car is off or in accessory mode, the stick wont engage. all the other gears work fine. iv tried going from 1st to reverse, and 2nd and 3rd. non managed to get it to engage the reverse gear.
Do you mean your shift **** shows 5 forward speeds? Does it show where reverse is? Do you mean that you can ONLY shift into five forward gears?

See post #18 of this link - that's what your shifter should look like. If not, then you got screwed.

checked the fluid, full.
How did you check the fluid? You have to essentially have the car on a lift to do that, since the plug is so hard to get to.

i had the fly wheel replaced not to long ago. i appreciate your help.
Were you able to shift into six speeds plus reverse BEFORE you got the flywheel replaced? If so, then I might suspect a problem with the shop.

And did they replace anything other than the flywheel? Clutch, pressure plate, TOB, clutch hydraulics?

Post up some pictures and we can help you more.

Steven

ok i took it to a shop and yes it is the lockout ring.
i did check the fluid.
they say they have to replace it because it got worn out or something. so they will lift the car and a new part costs about 84$.

Ok, so it has the lockout ring?

Exactly what transmission and shifter do you really have?

You keep saying your are sure it is a 5-speed.
A 5-speed transmission was never offered in the Corvette.

From your profile, it looks like you are located in Kuwait?? Cars that wind up in foreign countries could have been outside the US for some years and if certain parts are hard to obtain (like a Corvette ZF 6-speed), it's entirely possible that a different transmission could have been installed at some point.

Can you describe the shift pattern on your car? Where is Reverse located in the shift pattern? On a factory Corvette ZF trans, Reverse is to the right and toward the rear. It's further to the right from the 5th/6th gear part of the pattern.

Aftermarket 5-speed trans may have Reverse to the right and to the rear, but 5th gear would be to the right and forward with Reverse simply being the other direction.

Can you take a picture of the shifter **** if it has the pattern on it?

Yeah its very funny that there is no shift pattern on the shiftnob
and it is imported, coz the metric system is different. the reverse gear is on the right-downward position.
