Have a 93 vet. Died at the stop sign the other day. Could not get it to start, had it towed to garage. We thought it was the Quad driver that had just been replaced, but now they say something with the distributor. They have it running and it won't quit. They want it to stop to get the code while in the garage. Sound right?
If they did not disconnect the battery or the ECM from it there should be one in history. If they did disconnect without looking for it shame on them..

They claim they got a code that said something with the distributor (opti something) For some reason they want to have it stop running to get the code again. ??
Optispark/distributor codes/conditions can be intermitten until it finally dies. When mine was dying it would act up when the car was heat soaked and run fine once it cooled down.
Ask them what the code number was, mine died on the interstate once and I waited 10 minutes and it started right up and never did it again.
Did not throw a code or anything.
Look for a leaking WP or hose, weep hole for the WP is right over the opti and there are 2 hoses directly of the opti. Had the top heater hose go out and it drained right onto the opti, had to have her towed twice that day.
Also, a bad coil or more like a bad ICM will do the same thing. When ICM's go bad, they cause opti like problems and the same codes. Ask me how I know, also do not bother having a ICM checked, both times mine went out, they checked out fine, I think because they were cool when checked and never acted up till the car got hot.
