Default Loctite those opti rotor screws

This lovely unit came from Chandler Motorsports (ebay) and lasted 200 miles:

The second screw is hanging by a single thread. You can actually feel when the first screw comes out- the engine will loose power for a split second and then keep going. When the second screw loosens like this one has, or falls out, it will run like crap, backfire, or not start at all.

Unfortunately the GM units are not immune- this unit replaced a GM unit from a GM dealer that had the same problem, except the second screw sheared off at about 6500RPM.

Yep, thanks for the heads up. I had forgotten that happened to me also. I did away with the Opti on mine and used coilpacks. That rotor was the straw that broke the camels back.

Happened to me on a replacement Accel opti a few years back. Since then I do the loctite trick on any opti I work on or replace. I can't understand why the companies that make these aren't doing it. It's good-cheap insurance IMO

Received my Chandler unit two days ago and took it apart. It's a must on these units. The screws are as described pretty loose and it will only take a few miles before it happens as described above from ninetyfivevette.

While your at it, replace the plastic rivets.

Default Optispark precautions

I just ordered an Optispark from Chandler. When it gets here I'll get out my Loctite and my teeny tiny screwdrivers and tighten the rotor.

I've already replaced the other ignition pieces in hopes that I wouldn't have to do the Opti replacement, but nothing helped.
Thanks to all the posters for sharing info on their experiences. Soon I hope to add my own.

Has anyone done the vent kit retrofit for the non vented distributor version? I have a 93 vert and I've read the article, but it looks like a lot of work!!
