On my car (1994 C4), the right headlight works fine. The left one, however, will come up then it falls back down halfway. The strange part is, after the light comes up there is a loud clunk clunk clunk which shakes the light so bad that it falls back down. Even if I only turn on the running lights and not the actual headlights there is the loud clunk clunk clunk sound but and it does the same thing when I turn them off.
What is the issue?
Also, I remember on my old 89 C4 I had the same problem, other than the clunking noise, and I bought some brass gears or something for really cheap that fixed it. Could anyone point me in the right direction here?
sry i cant help you, because i have the same problem, when ever i switch the lights off, even if they are nt rotated i hear a loud noise but nothing is happening? weird.

YEs its as if the motor is still running for some reason
You probably need to install the headlight repair kit. The 3 internal bushings may have failed. You can get the kit from Ecklers or Mid America. Just search on headlight for the C4and the parts will come up.

Interestingly, I replaced the bushings in both of my headlights. Now my left (driver's side) is doing the rise and fall deal. If I drive the car with the driving.fog lights on, and turn them off I get the clunk-cluk noise. I am guessing the gears are stripped out.
