Default Not another headlight question!

I I hate to make my first post a plea for help but...

I've read through dozens of headlight repair posts but can't find anything that addresses may particular issue. The car is an '85 with 102K miles.

When I turn on the lights the right headlight comes on and goes up and the left headlight comes on but doesn't move. The left motor is not running. BUT, if I push the left headlight door about 1/4" further in the closed position the motor kicks in and pops up the headlight just fine. Both lights close with no problem and the left light will pop up by itself maybe once out of 20 tries.

Yeah, they're both a little noisy so I figure I'll have to go into the motors sometime but this doesn't seem related to the gear drive.

could be the stock gears in the motor,,, when i took mine apart they were powder,,, if one of the gears was only slightly worn out this might cause it to slip. could also be an electrical problem. did you check for power at the non working headlight motor?

You will have to take the motor apart to find out why it does that. My money is on the reversing contacts being worn out, the one for the opening position.

The motor works as soon as I push on the headlight door so I know it has power. I just push the front of the door down and bam! the motor clicks on and runs the headlight int position.

Hmm... I haven't seen anything mentioned about reversing contacts but that makes perfect sense. Any idea where I might find a pic so I know what I'm looking for.
