I have not tried this, but almost did.
85 pipe is supposed to be a little longer to the flange. Diameter is supposed to be the same as required to clamp to the 89 cat. So if all of this is true, you could cut the flange off the 85 and a little of the pipe and clamp it to the cat.
Never tried, but a guy on this forum measured it and it seemed as though it would work. Maybe somebody has done it to see.
