I've been getting a whistling noise on my '92 LT-1 for a while now...at first I thought it was the alternator, then I replaced it for another rebuilt and the whistling noise still occurs. When I press both window switches the whistle seems to amplify in sound....
Could this be an exhaust leak? Seems like it's coming from the accessories (Driver' s side)
I'm going to post this knowing that there will be people that will think I no little about my car but never-the-less, here is what I found when I heard a whistling sound.
I began to hear a whistling sound from under the hood at odd times, normally after a good bit of driving in traffic, after there was enough time for a lot of heat build up under the hood. I would hear it when stopped at a traffic light or at a stop sign. It sounded almost like someone actually was under the hood whistling.
I thought air pump, I thought water pump, I thought every thing but serpentine belt, after all, it did not do it when cold, it did not do it when I accelerated from a stop and it did not sound like a slipping drive belt. Finally, one of the many times I raised the hood to see if there was something that would "jump out" at me I noticed it... My serpentine belt had a lengthwise split in it. It was only about 3 inches long but there it was... I bought a new belt and installed it and have not heard the whistle since.
This may not be what your whistling is but then you never know. Good luck finding it.
Have you done a search? I seem to recall a similar thread where a vacuum leak in the climate control system was the culpret. I think the various doors that route the heat and/or AC air are vacuum controlled & can whistle if a leak develops.
I suddenly had a strange whistle coming from my engine compartment once. Seems that someone snuck in and installed a supercharger when I wasn't around.
Black84, you know what you are talking about! I had a very similar issue with my wife's Mustang's serpentine belt.

Pretty crazy, I have taken that poor belt out quite a few times due to repairs. I'll pull it out and see what I find.

Haven't gone very detailed, I will check that system.

Check that belt.
Hey, I'll leave my hood open over night, maybe someone will install one for me!
Maybe this is indeed pointing towards the belt. Now I feel the need to mention that I have seen static spark arcing from my serpentine belt to the accessories pulleys.

you are one lucky dude, Black84! How many inches in that belt were NOT split? right place, right time.
I was lazy, have not taken the belt of yet but I did spray some WD-40 on it....whistle remained. Still becomes louder when I hit the window switches.
I'm even thinking header shield...I would like to know if the power steering pump would create a whistle...there would be only one way to find out, take the belt off and start the car.

just my two cents here, but I had a throttle body gasket that was leaking badly, not to mention, it was causing the car the run very lean and extremely hot. I'd get a can of carb cleaner and spray around suspected vacuum ports, throttle body, injector bosses,etc...even those vacuum lines to the climate controls, they get brittle after a long time in the under hood heat.
Hope this helps....

Thanks Ben! I will need to pick up a can.
I've been hearing some air noise on top of my throttle body too, I can't tell whether it' s the outside air coming in or a leak...I mean the gasket is new. I will check that out, thanks again.
Maybe the motor is whistling because it forgot the words.
Must be singing to itself...cause my radio don't work!
On a serious note, I get in back of the car and stick my head underneath. I can hear the whistling noise from out back. I'm thinking it's part of my exhaust, I need to get the car up.
