Popping Noise
Ever since I have had the 85 it has had a popping, thumping noise coming from the rear.....sorta. It seems to be centered in the back but sometimes I hear it more forward and then it sounds like a boat paddle hitting the bottom of a boat. This happens when I pull away from a stop.
I have changed the u joints in the drive shaft and tightened the c beam bolts thinking they were logical points. Both procedures seemed to help for a bit but the popping comes back. Inspections under the car dont show any chafe marks where something is giving.
I didnt replace the straps when I did the u joints. Are these possibly stretched allowing play? The half shaft joints seem ok but that may be my next step. At that time I will put in the "teflon" washers as well. Is popping one of the symptoms this corrects?
