My drivers side door hinge squeaks and pops when I close it. The hinge has no play in it. I tried spraying graphite grease in it and it helped for a day or so. It sounds like I am opening a 500 year old door to a castle.
Any ideas on the best way to quiet it down. Thanks guys.
On my 1992 on the upper door hinge there is a vertical rod that supplies the tension to hold the door open. Open the door all the way and move it open and close and you will see this vertical rod move. With the door open it is relatively easy to get grease in the area where it is needed. When I was comparing the two sides they looked different. Thats when I realized the hinge mechanism was the same for both doors but one was installed upside down relative to the other. That way one hinge worked for both sides. I greased mine with a white lithium grease and it has been quiet and moves smoothly.

Nice write up. I will give it a shot and let you know how it turned out.
Thanks again..
The length and weight of the door puts a ton of strain on the hinge. I went through every bolt and tightened it up. I took some fireline fishing line to all the moving joints and oiled the hell out of it. The squeaking and popping went away.
