i just got an 86. it sat in storage for a few years. i changed plugs, wires, ect. it seems to run good but the idle surges when it is warmed up and it doesn't start as easy as it should. does anybody know what it might be? i'm disabled and can't afford to replace things that aren't causing the problem
it could be any number of things, from timing a bit off to spendyer and spendyer, I apoligize for how this sounds, but you have the wrong car for a fixed income.
just fisished reading the FSM, factory service manual, for various complaints, and there are many pages, many things to check and verify.
the simple things are visual for loose vac lines, lines are everywhere-check for loose runner bolts, pull the pcv and check that it springs back when you place a finger over it.
the idle control valve may need adjusting. plugs wires may be losing voltage to ground. TPS may need adjusting. air filter, if you didn't do that.
the days before computer controls are long gone. these computers monitor so many things and constantly adjust fuel delivery. the idle issue and starting may not be related.
check timing because it is important, but unless it is way advanced it won't affect idle. also, be sure you know how to do it properly before you change anything.
