Does anyone know where i an buy the chassis cross bracing
that is used on convertibles to stiffen
my coupe when the top is off. Any feedback on how well it works
and how difficult it is to install would be appreciated
Same for me, my 92 is like my old 67 with the top off, loose as a goose. I keep meaning to see if a machine shop could fab up a simple brace to screw in when the top is off. Well by 'could' I mean, at a reasonable cost.
Note: I am wanting a brace to screw in as a replacement for the top when removed. Wonder if I just had two metal bars made that would connect front to back on each side (ie, no bracing running across from driver to passenger side) if that would do the job or if to be effective it needs to be a 4 sided affair like the top is, a box shape..? I'm tempted to just knock out a cheapie wood brace to see if that has any effect, just for testing.
put a "WTB" ad in the parts wanted section - i just bought one off a forum member - price was really great, but i paid more in shipping than i did for the X-brace. there was a few dings and dents in the thing, but i was able to straighten everything out, its sanded and ready for a coat of rustoleum. still need to install my new exhaust system. the forward mounting attaches to tapped holes in the forward frame rails, but i'll have to drill and use riv-nuts in the rear. mounting seems fairly straight forward. it looks like you will lose about 1 inch ground clearance. some members have boxed in the members, and i thought about that, but it would just add in more expense - not sure if it's really worth it for the street. i might do that later - ??? i have heard from other corvette (coupe) owners that it definitely helps with eliminating chassis flex. we'll see...
