Default 96 lt1 intake questions

got the 3 claw slp intake as a gift, thinking before i install it should i get a throttle body spacer and a bigger throttle body or is it too much air flow and kill the engine?? i have longtube headers with x-pipe and borla mufflers. need it to still be a daily driver so must be dependable as well. also what size throttle body should i go with if its better for the car

Just keep what you have and install the new claw. No need to change anything else at all and your tune will be fine also. Enjoy the intake sounds from your new intake.

A few bolt ons, a little tweaking here and there, and then some tuning to take full advantage becomes a full blown endeavor. Enjoy the small dollar expenditures to finese what is there. However, if you want to up the power considerably, you can put in the HOT cam and port the TB to 52mm. Along with my headers I realized the same numbers on the same dyno as my stock '03 Z06; 340+ HP and 334Torque. But that was with my LT4 which only requires heads for the LT1. But, if you do that, you may as well let Lloyd Elliott down in Tx. do some porting for you to get another 25 to 30 HP (as I have subsequently done). Nawwh, stay with what you have and wait to see what the C7 offers. I have spent way too much on my C4 and C5.

okk i appreciate it very much. so this is still a daily driver so dependablity is a must. but if i put a cam in it would i lose that reliability of it, and also what type of cam... also what other mods could i do to make it run better? i got the melrose long tube headers and high flow cats and the slp claw intake. what could i do next to make it better and still be street legal but dependable? i have no budget cause ill have this car forever.

How much power do you want? Answer that question and then you can define mods. Your ad hoc approach will merely empty the bank account while adding little additional power.

Engines are a *system*. Treat it as such.

Regarding the tb....I'm over 500hp at the crank and run the stock 48mm tb.

well that is a good question, i kinda want to be the fastest of courese, but then again it is a daily driver, so maybe around 500hp will be great enough for a daily driver.

Forget "fastest". Always someone faster. 800+hp is easy with enough money for the bottom end and forced induction. As soon as you do that, an LSx guy will show up with a lighter weight car pushing 1000hp.

If you want 500, then do a search on some of the engine build threads. Many of us have documented what we did with pictures, parts lists, cam specs, heads, etc. For a daily driver with easy street manners and decent gas mileage you will need to go the forced induction route or build a stroker. Cost will range from a few thousand to >$10k depending on the selected parts, needed machine work, and how much of the work you can do your self.

Aslo, thoughts on cam shaft; HOT cam is fine with me. I like some decent mileage on the street and I don't like changing valve springs every two years. Sure, you can get more HP but the maintenance can be a headache if you intend to keep the car. I have found a balance between good power and easy to live with. As said above, there is always someone that will have more HP. Usually the guys that have a HP monster also have another vehicle for a DD.

Lift of GM LT4 HOT cam is .525. Which is not too bad on valve springs and also retains good bottom end torque. Gas mileage will not suffer much, too. One can get close to 370rwhp fairly easily. Some examples of more. If you get a cam with too much lift, bottom end power suffers as does gas mileage, you have to constantly shift for higher rpm, and the valve springs weaken faster thus needing replacement.

Dont think youll want to deal with a 500hp DD if you want great manners and OEM type longevity. You can surely do it but it will take a few bux and you cant mind a tuff idle. It will take a very strong cyl head and stout cam to get your there, intake porting, headers injectors tune etc.
Forget the TB spacer. You can use the claw but honestly if you do a cut lid/paper filter youll be just fine and the car will run the same.
