I asked many questions on C4 also.
I am a mechanic so removing & reinstalling a transmission is pretty easy task anyhow.
If you read back about 1 year on C4,
CORVETTEMIKE2004 & his black 1989 Corvette Roadster, used to be a stick on top of this main tech page & has been moved,
Mike home rebuilt his C4 700R4 himself.
He did an excellent job.
I helped along with many others for tech support & morale support also.
Mike also home fashioned many tools himself to get the job done.
Many fantastic photographs & write ups by Mike there.
Mike got fed up with the Politics here on C4.
Said Fick this chit Brian to me 1 day.
He bought a Harley & rode off into the desert sunset.........really he did.
Mike will be back, about the time you are ready to rebuild your Corvette 7004.
He had to go beat up some American jerks in person for a while....lol
I will help you when ready.

How important is the 700R4 TV- throttle valve cable adjustment ???

If the current president of the USA came up to You after you freshly rebuilt your 700R4 & blueprinted it & stated you did not know chit & get out of the way & I will adjust it for you...............

Tell him too that You will rip his right arm off & beat him with it also......LOL

TV cable adjustment is that important.
Controls line pressure rise & correct shift points w/ the centrifugal governor.

Many quality aftermarket 700R4 parts.
Research & ask questions.
I will answer your questions.

Hi Brian,

Quickly glanced through some of the posts by corvettemike 2004, pete k and sliding. Suddenly I feel like I would like to give it shot during this winter. Hopefully it will pass

Yeah........

Timing will be perfect.........

Corvette Mike 2004 will back here on C4 I know it by then.

He is KOOL.
Kinda crazy like me & very fun to talk to on C4.

The homemade tools he came up with while rebuilding his 700R4 trans....... Just ingenious.

Shop around for parts.
watch ebay also.
You can save $200 - $300 total possible.

Whatever you do,
Do not purchase A Dayco torque converter or similar off of ebay.

I used a custom built lockup torque converter with a Raybestos clutch friction material & high stall from a guy in Ohio that hand builds each 1 himself.

Guys here on C4 rave about the Precision Vigilante torque converters.
They are expensive but worth it if you can afford it.

Pete K. has good torque converters I hear also.
His 2,800 RPM 9.5" inch unit is supposed to be very hot performing for the price he sells the for.

The GM issue 4L65E 5- pinion front & rear reaction planetary gearsets complete are worth the extra $$ expense if you can afford it also.
I used them in 87 700R4 rebuild.
Besides increased ultimate torque capacity well beyond the stock 700R4 & 4L60E C4 units,
They are 100% quiet- silent in operation.
Even when I manual downshift from Overdrive 4th down to 1st gear at 60 mph.
& let the engine pull down - brake down fast.

My 87 vert has the 2.73 gears so I can pull that off easy.
Base gears for the C4 verts.

Good Luck,

It will be challenging at times but fun too rebuilding & blueprinting your 700R4.
Its all worth the effort & expense in the end I promise You.

Brian,

I'm considering buying another tranny to overhaul and then switch next spring. What am I looking for? Will any TH700R4 do? Is TH700R4 another designation for 4L60?
You told me I could save $200 to $300. If I leave my car at the shop and let them do the whole thing I will have to pay like $3.500 here in Sweden. Doing it myself I belive I will save more than the $2-300.

Cheers
