Default another overheating question

quick history here . i bought a 94 vette last april. was running a little hot
so i pulled the radiator cleaned all the crap that gets caught up there, straightened out all the fins and washed it down with a soft brush and dishsoap and water mixture. put it back together ,didnt burp the system(never even heard of that till today )and it seemed to work great ,all last summer it ran very cool . the only time my fan came on was in 85 plus temps in stop and go traffic and the fan always came on at 228 degrees. just before i stoped driving it in december it started running hot . so i put it away for the winter and this spring and summer it been running hotter than normal. so i changed the stat to a 160 degee didnt make a difference . just changed the rad yesterday still running the same . doesnt matter what the temp is outside , or if im driving it or at an idle , the temp will continue to climb till it hits 228 then the fans come on and cool it down to 217 or so . i know some will say these temps are normal but if i let it idle and the temps hit 215 or so and i drive it, the temps should drop. gonna change my stat again today with a delco this time anything else i should look for ? ps sorry for such a long post

A couple of generalities: 1. Whatever your Toyota does, your Vette should too. So hook up your scanner to your Toyota and whatever temperature the fan comes on at, is pretty much the temperature your Vette should come on at. 2. Once the Fan comes on, the temperature should drop. 3. Whatever is burned into the ECM for fan control is when the Fan should come on. That's usually a signal from the Coolant Temp Sensor, but with a/c, the system is designed to cool the liquid it's making in the Condensor and not the Coolant so it relies on a device that measures that temperature and there's nothing, in any car, that will display what that temperature is. 4. The Condensor liquid has to be 50 to 60 degrees less than the Coolant if you want cold air and Coolant temperatures are lower than non a/c temperatures because the fan needs to come on sooner and run longer to maintain that temperature. 5. At steady cruise, anything above 30 - 35 mph, Coolant Temps should be around the Thermostat that was designed for your car. 6. If yours doesn't do one or any of the above, there are a host of maladies that can be the cause, but the most common seems to be having no knowledge of how or why it works the way it does - mainly emissions, though a/c operation is exempt from emissions monitoring so if you're anti-green, that might give you another reason to run around with the a/c on.

Out here, we suggest a Prius . . . but whatever you have, the operating characteristics of it's cooling system are similiar to a Vette and it's been that way for about 35 years now - or is the C4 your first car with electronic fuel injection and emissions equipment?
