Yes externally they do internally who knows. I am thinking it would be ok to put an 86 rack on an 84 but not the reverse. That is assuming upgrades were made as the engineers refined the rack.

in the 84-87 years , i couldnt find any difference cept the part numbers, they grouped 84/85 and 86/87 together . they are the same length, bolt on the same, if you needed one , and you got it cheap or free, I bet they would interchange. at that price it would be worth finding out. they're only bout $200 rebuilt.

According to Mid America Corvette 1984 and 85 are the same, 1986 and 87 is different, 1988 is different. It only took one search to get this answer.

the ends are different.

I put an earlier fast ratio rack into my '95, and I needed to swap the inner tie rods.

The only difference is the internal ratio...Z51, Z52, (sport or performance)Base, etc
Order replacement racks by the suspension code. Or change if you want. Ratios were defined by the number of wheel turns lock to lock. A fast rack 84-Z51 will be about 7/8 of a turn either way of center. The softer base model is more like 1.5 turn left or right.
I bought the fast rack and believe me, its very fast...a good sneeze sends you across 2 lanes.
Alot like over-steer.

Externally the housings, mounts, fittings and hardware is the same. Tie rod(s) ends differed with various yrs. (88-96) Different lengths.

Bummer he changed his mind found another car with a wrecked front end. Is it possible to rebuild the rack? I have googled and not found how to's or rebuild kits.

You are probably going to have to swap your core for a rebuilt unit. Google that. BTW, get the right one. No matter what some of these guys say there are differences. These things are a PITA to change out.
