Hey guys, just got my 3.07s in my 89 today and I noticed a burning smell. I backed up to see if I was leaking and as I backed up slowly it creaked like an old wooden door type sound. Also I noticed it was leaking a little bit of gear oil from the back. I called the shop and they will be looking at it Monday but they said they may have filled it too much, as for the leaks and smell, if its burning or somthing I guess. And for the creaking they said it may be a bushing working its way in. Does this make sense? The gears are from a 96 Vette with 28kmi. Thanks!
Heh  Went back and re-read your post... "bushing working its way in". Sounds like to me something working its way out of your WALLET! :bs
If the additive is not in the gear oil then the rear will chatter... most notably when you turn a corner. Take it back and tell them to make it RIGHT!!! :mad
If they overfilled it or did not add the additive then, ya, I'd say its an easy fix. Otherwise... I'd stay on top of them and make sure they fix everything to your satisfaction. You paid for it ... they need to make it right :)
Bringing the car to the shop Monday. The creaking seemed to have stopped but I am blowing gear oil all out the back. Its getting on my exhaust and burning pretty good. If they overfilled it I don't think it would be this bad. What are some seals that should be checked? I want to sound like I know what I'm talking about when I go there. Can the seals or gaskets be repaired or do I need a new rear? :mad
