I'm looking for a good rubber lube for suspension bushings, springs & grommets. What have you guys used with good results and what brand would you recommend?
commonly used for mounting tires, it is also excellent for bushings. Can be a little tough to find locally and I think the smallest size is one gallon but that will last forever.
The key is keeping the bushings clean. Grit is what eats them away and being dry is what cracks them. Grease attracts dirt and grease holds the grit. The part wears and eventually gets loose and fails.
I pressure wash the underside every couple months or after driving in rain then go back and spray wet silicone on each bushing, add fresh grease to parts with zerks. Most of my bushings have 275,000 miles and none are cracked or broken or even loose. Replacing this coming year mostly because of age and I want some poly bushings on sway bars.
Had a can of Silcone in my 95 went for Houston to NY and back ..That can want a long way.. I have some left over LOL.. The old rubber ones on my 96 140,000 miles look good I think if the bushing are made with good stuff to start with will last a lot longer ,will need to take care of them so when you buy them get the best you can at the time . I haved talked to some people and they tell me VBP have good Poly Bush I have VBP in my vetts and sofar ok ..Need to be greased and cleaned can't just forget them ..I use the white stuff .
