Coughs, backfires, stalls
Hi Gang,
Do you guys think I may have water in the tank of my '92 coupe?....
When it runned low on fuel, about 1 or 2 lines on the gauge it started acting up, loss of power, loss of accelleration, popping thru the muffler and stall, crank, starts right up runs few seconds n stalls sometimes runs a minute or 2 or longer.
Ran to the gas station (2 miles away) kept stalling and popping all the way there and after I filled'er up all the way home and into the garage.
Start it up the next day left it idling for 20 mins, no problems, I dont dare taking it for a ride till I find whats causing this annoyance.
Besides that car runs excellent, only 10,000 miles on it.
I dont have this car long, I just bought it a few months ago and just starting driving it this spring.
Any one out there ever experienced something similar???

Does it still stall & backfire? Only under load? How is it when you rev it in Park?
did it in park at idle and same driving it.

It sounds like the symptoms of an opti spark going bad. Like your Vette, my 94 was never driven in the rain, always garaged, with 12k on the odometer. I started having the same problems, and over a six month period the opti function deteriorated until it needed to be replaced.
