The smog pump on my 85 is noisy. Can this be taken apart and oiled/greased or is it time for a replacement? I do not want to put on a the pump elimination kit.

You can get a rebuilt pump for about $125 - (www.zip-corvette.com/ProductDetails/ProductDetails.aspx?pid={c5730aa6-fd7b-4499-ac6e-70f86e823138}&gid={353ace96-3e46-40c1-b2ec-ada2f32f15b6}&GroupName=Smog+Pump%2c+Div erter+Valve&pname=81-85+A.I.R.+(Smog)+Pump+-+Rebuilt&Referer=&Alias=&ptct=SGR-SR&CTitle=&)
Or you can send yours to Bill Hodel (billhodel@sbcglobal.net) who restores original smog pumps to NCRS standards.
They have a pretty strict Emissions inspections there in NC as I recall. Dont you hafta have it completely stock? I sold a highly modified Trooper to a buddy up there and he had a helluva time getting it thru the inspection.
Yes, the inspections here are a bit strict. But, I do not have to have emissions testing done with the 85. There was a cut off year for emissions inspections -- I do not remember what that year model was. However, the inspectors do look under the hood for components. If you get an a__ hole inspector, expect trouble. That is why I am choosing to keep it original -- at least original looking.
Got a NAPA (better quality?) rebuilt for $40 in GA. for an 87. Looked like new quite as a mouse, been on for about 2yrs now with no problems.
The thing is about the same for millions of GM cars. It's not a speciality corvette part.
