My weatherstrips should be in tomorrow from Corvette Rubber. I'm replacing the rear hatch, rear roof/pillar and both roof side strips... Anyone have any tips on replacing these to make my life easier? :D
Any corvette house has a cheap little install kit with something to help remove the old, clean the surface, and a sealant, usually 3m black is used. Does Corvette rubber have a web site, I need to buy some stripping again.
Rear hatch--Remove the old by cutting in several sections to avoid dragging the mess throughout the car. Remove the c-clip nearest the hinge one at a time while the hatchglass rests on your back (leaned over in hatch). Let stand overnight prior to shutting doors/hatch. I believe it was a #50 starbit to remove the seatbelt posts so that the interior trim pieces could be pulled back far enough. Just over an hour for the hatch alone, no previous exp.
I did the entire roof in two days time, but now it looks just as bad as the day I bought her just 3 years later. Don't know if I want to bother again. The roof stuff is pretty simple. The A and B pillars are not easy to get all the old stuff off of. Just takes time. Use a piece of plastic as a scraper so you don't gouge the surrounding areas. Lay the rubber out for a while to let it soften up a bit and to work out the kinks.....room temp the night before or out in direct sunlight for a while. Good luck... :seeya
I did all the roof strips and rear pillar after work today.... wasn't bad, just cleaning the old stuff out was a PITA. I did to a trial run before I glued them down... but even then I used very little glue. Just some on the pillars and ends of the roof strips.
