Default Sensor for automatic headlights

On my 1991 somebody has mounted a resistor parallell to the sensor in order to stop the headlights from popping up every now and then. The installation is not very good looking but works as it should.
My question is - does this sensor also have something to do with the acc? I mean is this the sensor that causes the acc to run a bit cooler in direct sunlight?

Cheers

I have a 1990 and did the headlight fix to stop popping up anytime but that sensor is directly above the gauges on the dash surface and not the one closest to the windshield as I suspect what you are showing in your post.If that is the one you are showing; yes it controls the A/C but not the headlights...otherwise the PO did a fix.

Hi Bill,

Yes, my pic shows the sensor right next to the windshield. It is installed in the air outlet cover.
I have been trying to find another sensor located on the dash surface as you describe but I can't. Obviously, neither did the brutal mechanic who broke A/C sensor in order to install a resistor there. I wonder if that is another fix? Perhaps to obtain some change in the A/C behaviour.
I my pic didn't show the sensor you did the headlight fix on - would you be so kind and point out exactly where the correct sensor is located. If your car is a 1990 I believe you have the same dash as me.

Is it perhaps this one in the Trip monitor?

This one governs the dash illumination.

Is your corvette imported from Canada?
It is only there they those automatic headlights and in Sweden.
Maybe it was sold originally in Sweden, than the dealer/import agent in Sweden (wich is Hedin in Gothenburg) should know more about it.

Theo,

My Corvette was originally delivered to Germany and then imported to Sweden. Perhaps I don't have the mentioned sensor. I got the impression that all cars with metric meters had the sensor but that might be wrong.

If I don't have the headlight flip sensor, I really wonder why the resistor was installed to the sun load sensor.

I have been told that the sun load sensor no longer is sold. Perhaps this is a very advanced fix to or replacement of the sun load sensor?

Hej på dig!

I can´t imagine that the sensor right under the windshield has something to do with the headlights flipping up and down.
It must be something else that would cause that.

And, hej på dig too...

This is correct. If sent to Canada like mine; It has the extra sensor I mentioned. If your Vette came from the USA; it would not have it. I assumed you had a Canadian one with your description. You will have to go to a GM dealership if possible where you live and run the VIN number to see where it originated.

Yes, the person who imported the car to Germany could have it imported from Canada.

The car was not imported to Germany by a person. It was sold to its first owner in Germany by a German dealership. I have the warranty certificate with name of the first owner and the service book. The car has done 163000 km today and I can see that is has been serviced as it should up to 135000 km.

Well taken care of? Perhaps. Sadly enough the gearbox went crazy this evening. It pulls on reverse, first and second gear. On third it slips. I am not so happy right now.

No, it doesn't.
People say it's a four speed tranny. I have only found three plus the overdrive.
What is the proper name on my tranny? 4L60 eller 4L60e?
If I need to have it overhauled - is there some sort of upgrade I should do at the same time?

Depends on how you are going to drive it...
Best to talk to them or read threads on another C4 forum (I don´t think it´s popular to mention that one here, I don´t know... something with gurus)...

That is correct, and why most call it a four speed tranny.

As I said, I have only found three and the overdrive. Apperantly the lock-up seems to be out of order to.
Some consider the lock-up to be the fourt gear...

Anyway it will cost me big bucks. Got an offer for app $3500. Leave the car, have it fixed and then pick it up. Of course, then I will have a tuned up tranny.
