I am looking to purchase or manufacture a rollbar for my 1990 convertible. The car came from the factory with a hardtop and was looking to utilize the mounting locations for it. I know that I will not be able to raise or lower the top with it installed in this location but the car is garaged and the top only goes up when in storage and when it needs to be washed. I have seen something simular to what I want on the newer Mustangs (Sorry for the Ford reference). I am considering buying one and modifying it to fit. Has anyone ever tried this and/or know of a place that may already offer one.
Thank you for any help that you may be able to provide.
I've been looking at one of these for awhile. You will have to do cutting and welding, but it don't seem too bad. I honestly don't know how it matches up to the front of the car and if you have to do anything with the dash.
I have the Autopower roll bar installed on my 93 vert. It doesn't interfere with putting the top up, but it doesnt use the hard top mounts. It needs to be bolted/welded in.
There are some pictures in my profile. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I have a 6 point cage in my 93 vert (see my last post about my x brace and there is a picture of it (not a good one).
Its welded to the the frame at 6 points. You have to notch the vert decklid in, 2 places, to clear the back braces of the main hoop.
It has non removable sidebars for max rigidity.
Since the picture, I've added some foam and my wife bought a bunch of old black leather coats and stitched the leather around the rollbar and foam padding. It looks sharp.
Top goes up/down fine. Though you can't recline the seat as far back as you used to (bc now the seatback hits the harnes bar).
