When you turn the headlight **** - does your digi dash dim right away? Or does it take (literally, I've timed it) 2minutes or so? I'm guessing some rheostat is on it's way out (or gone). Is this in the dash unit, the **** unit or ???
I don't have a schematic of the dash, but there is a circuit in it that uses the output of the dimmer to control other lamps and I would suspect that either there is a poor connection from the dimmer to that circuit, or, a series resistor from the dimmer output on the cluster circuit board has failed and is many times its orginal value. If this were my problem, I would be looking for that resistor.
Thanks. Sounds like it's probably one on the dash unit itself. The rest of the display lights dim immediately - just the dash takes a while. It does eventually dim though. I need to get that thing serviced one of these days. My OD light comes on, but only half of the message is lit up. Plus the day/night sensor has no effect. There's a shop here in Md who rebuilds the clusters for GM. Said he could turn it around in a few days for me. First I've got to get the shark back together. :yesnod:
Id just send that one off for reservice, tell them to resolder and replace anything and everything. It sounds as if the potentiometer isnt making a connection with the Dash and the resistance is staying at the same level in the dash.
