Well, i just finished fixing a battery problem on my car. The thing went out and i couldnt get the post off. Dang 5/16. What the hell was gm thinking? Anyway. Now that the thing starts, the right headlight wont open. It looks as if the motor isnt getting any power because its not turning at all. It does light up, however. The left one is just fine. Can someone give me a diagram or schematic of the circuit so i can run it down? What fuse does it go to? I have the "2 wire" style upgrade headlight motors and actuators. Please help. :boxing
I feel your pain...some of the times (like once tonight) I have to crank the headlights manually. It gets really annoying. Unfortunately I don't know why yours would not be getting any power (and i have no schematics of which you speak)- when mine do not flip over properly they get about half way and then get stuck! :mad
The headlight humm . WEll maybe your gears are worn out or maybe the motor is blown, your headlight will still turn on because the motor that turns the light and the one that turns the light on are different wires. If it goes half way up and gets stuck your gear is worn out,
I turned my lights on just to check them all out before going to get safety/emissions testing in Houston on Sat and it broke the headlight bucket where the motor goes into the frame to spin the light over, luckily I had a spare (thanks TracerX) and replaced it yesterday. Gid I have the wiring diagrams if you need them, let me know. I will copy them and mail or try to get someone to scan them and post or email them to you.
Thanks for the replies everyone. The problem is that there is no power to the motor, or the motor is out. It does nothing. I want to try to run it down and put some temperary juice to it before drawing any other conclusions.
Lynn, The crossfire forum is down, so i am glad i caught you here. I would love those diagrams. Please send em today sometime. my email's gidvette84@ hotmail.com THANKS MAN!!
i have taken apart many of these units. sometimes its just so dirty inside all you have to do is clean them up, i also have found that the magnets are glued in & sometimes all you have to do is re glue the magnet. i also have seen worn out gears (also an easy fix). one time i had to bypass a fuse inside the moter & it worked fine. if you are mechanicaly inclined dont sweat the job its really not hard at all. if you lived in ct i say stop by with a 6 pack & ide help. email me if you have any questions...ill be happy to help.
Thanks eric. I am taking all those things into consideration. Its just funny how it stopped working when i changed my battery. I will see when Lynn gets those diagrams to me.
My '88 has the headlight control unit in the lower left of the engine compartment. Power for the right headlight motor comes into terminal B on the control unit through a rust colored fusable link. This link is located at the jump start block in the lower left of the engine compartment and is hot at all times.
Pull the connector to the control unit and check terminals E & B, both should have +12Vdc.
John,
I am not sure how they are made, they were updated before i got the car. I thought the actuator was the part of the assembly that included the gear and the shaft comming out of the motor? Again, there is no motion, so i dont think its the gear, i think i lost power to the motor. I will get to it in about 1 hour. L8r man!
65, there is 12 volts going to each wire that goes to the each motor. How does this thing work? Does it cut off power to one side to make the motor turn? There is 12 volts coming out on each of the four pins on the control module. Thanks!!
